Please take a minute to also read our Common Errors and Solutions page, which lists the most common errors that SuncoPrinting.com has with digital files received from customers.
To get started, please either use one of our Free Guideline Templates or follow this Step-by-Step Guide:
Step 1: Create a new document (File / New). |

Please include an extra 1/8" around each side if your artwork will bleed to the edge. Please see more information about bleeds below.
Example: For a 4” x 6” Postcard
- Width: 6.25
- Height: 4.25
- Resolution: 300 pixels/inch
- Color Mode: CMYK Color

| |
| Step 2: Set Guide Lines |
Drag four guides from the rulers exactly 1/8” (.125) on each side. This will be where your printed piece will trim and will leave you with the final size that you ordered (in this example, 4” x 6”).
Be careful, as text, borders, or images that are too close to the edge may appear uneven or get cut off. Also be sure to allow “full bleed” images to extend into the bleed area or the white of the paper may leak into the postcard image.
Drag four additional guides from the rulers exactly 1/4" (.25) on each side. This will be your safe area. Do NOT place any critical information beyond the safety to avoid it getting cut off. |
| |
Step 3: Flatten Your Artwork |
Design your artwork as you normally would while keeping in mind the specfications below about bleeds and colors.
With your artwork at its final stage, Flatten your image (if you used layers), by choosing "Flatten Image" from the "Layer" menu.
MAKE SURE YOU SAVE THIS AS A DIFFERENT FILE TO ENSURE YOU DO NOT OVERWRITE YOUR LAYERED VERSION. |
| |
Resolution |
Please keep in mind that SuncoPrinting.com only prints EXACTLY what is sent to us. We do not have the time or resources to alter or color correct your files. Image resolution, quality and good color all will affect how your final printed piece looks.
For optimal results, your image must be at least 300 DPI (dots per inch), also known as Pixels Per Inch (PPI) at the final output size. Please do not attempt to change a low resolution image to a higher one by changing the DPI in your imaging software. Doing so will result in a blurred output as seen to the left.

| |
| Solid Blacks |
If you want to have an area of solid black within your document, using 100% Black will not result in a nice, rich and saturated black. To obtain these results, instead use a rich black color, represented by the following CMYK values: C: 60%, M: 40%, Y: 40%, K: 100%.
Never use a Rich Black for any small graphic objects or text that is smaller than 18-20 points in size. |
